Beyond Fathom

The brief was a website inspired by a famous figure. I chose Jacques Cousteau, whose whole life was a descent — so the site descends too. A fathom is six feet of water; to fathom something is to understand it. Beyond Fathom goes past both: a scroll through the ocean's zones, sunlight to twilight to abyss, introducing the animals living in each and getting stranger as the light runs out. Hand-drawn, hand-lettered, built as an exercise in what happens when a reading experience has a depth gauge.
